Details

Φ1.2 mm OV6948 USB Endoscope Camera Module (model No: NECM16USB-D102) is an OV6948 1.2mm micro camera module for OEM teams developing sub-2mm inspection probes for aerospace, automotive and precision manufacturing micro-access inspection. It is designed for applications where a 2mm or 3mm borescope is still too large, such as turbine cooling holes, EV battery cooling channels, injector nozzles, valve bodies, precision casting passages and additive-manufactured internal channels.

This is not a consumer endoscope, DIY camera or low-cost inspection probe.

It is a Φ1.2mm OV6948 OEM camera core for sub-2mm visual access when standard 2mm or 3mm borescopes cannot enter aerospace cooling holes, EV battery cooling channels, injector nozzles, valve bodies, precision casting passages or additive-manufactured internal channels.

200×200 video is enough for close-range access, orientation, blockage confirmation and internal passage viewing. It is not enough for HD imaging, OCR, fine defect measurement or certified NDT decisions by itself.

Your team must integrate and validate the final probe: lighting, cable, housing, bend path, sealing, host software and inspection workflow.

If access diameter is not your main problem, this is not the right camera.

Built for Access, Not HD Image Quality
Most camera projects begin with resolution.
OV6948 projects begin with access diameter.
The value of this module is not 4K, HD imaging or long-distance inspection. Its value is the ability to place a camera head into a space where conventional inspection cameras cannot physically enter.
The OV6948 sensor measures only 0.575mm × 0.575mm, enabling a front head around Φ1.2mm with integrated LED lighting. The module outputs 200×200 video at 30fps, which can be useful for close-range visual confirmation, blockage checking, orientation, internal passage viewing and micro-access inspection.
This resolution is not suitable for fine defect measurement, OCR, high-resolution image analysis or certified NDT inspection by itself. But when the inspection path is extremely narrow, visual access may matter more than pixel count.

Core Application: Aerospace, Automotive & Precision Manufacturing Micro-Access Inspection

NECM16USB-D102 is designed for OEMs, inspection tool developers and engineering teams building custom micro-borescopes, small-diameter visual probes and compact inspection devices.

It can be evaluated for:

  • aerospace component micro-access inspection
  • turbine cooling hole visual access
  • narrow internal cavity inspection
  • automotive injector nozzle inspection
  • EV battery cooling channel inspection
  • valve body internal passage viewing
  • hydraulic passage inspection
  • precision casting internal channel inspection
  • additive-manufactured internal passage viewing
  • micro-hole, micro-channel and small-cavity inspection
  • OEM micro-borescope and inspection probe development

For aerospace MRO tool developers, this module may help evaluate visual access inside narrow passages, small internal cavities and cooling-hole structures where standard borescopes cannot enter.

For automotive and EV component teams, it can be tested for micro-access visual confirmation inside cooling plates, injector nozzles, valve bodies, hydraulic paths, sensor housings and compact precision parts.

For precision manufacturing and additive manufacturing teams, it can support early-stage inspection probe development for hidden passages, internal channels, small bores and complex part geometries.

This module is not a certified aerospace NDT system by itself. It is an OEM camera core for probe development, feasibility testing and engineering evaluation. The final inspection tool, validation workflow, imaging software, documentation process and NDT compliance remain the responsibility of the customer.

Professional FAQ

FAQ 1: We are developing a sub-2mm inspection probe for aerospace cooling holes or narrow internal passages. Can this OV6948 module be used as the camera core?

Yes, NECM16USB-D102 can be evaluated as an OV6948 1.2mm micro camera module for aerospace micro-access inspection probe development, especially when the inspection path is too small for a 2mm or 3mm borescope.

Typical evaluation targets may include cooling holes, narrow passages, small internal cavities, fluid paths, lightweight structural components and other restricted-access areas where the first engineering problem is physical access.

However, this module is not a certified aerospace NDT system by itself. It provides a micro visual access camera core. The final probe manufacturer must validate the complete inspection tool, including optical performance, illumination, cable routing, probe mechanics, environmental durability, documentation workflow, inspection repeatability and applicable NDT process requirements.

Use this module when your engineering question is:

“Can we get any usable visual access into a passage where a standard borescope cannot physically enter?”

FAQ 2: Our EV battery cooling plate, injector nozzle or valve body has a small internal channel that a normal borescope cannot enter. What should we test before choosing this 1.2mm camera?

For EV battery cooling channel inspection, injector nozzle inspection, valve body passage viewing and precision automotive component inspection, you should test the camera inside the real part or a realistic fixture before making a design decision.

Key validation points include:

  • minimum access diameter
  • channel geometry
  • straight vs. curved access path
  • bend radius
  • working distance
  • surface reflection
  • LED illumination effectiveness
  • whether liquid, dust or machining residue may block visibility
  • cable flexibility and durability
  • whether 200×200 resolution is enough for the intended decision

The OV6948 module is useful when the inspection goal is close-range visual confirmation, such as blockage, orientation, passage condition, object presence or internal access feasibility. It is not the right choice if the system must perform calibrated defect measurement, high-resolution crack detection or detailed dimensional inspection.

A good internal search question for your team is:

“Do we need proof that the channel is visually accessible, or do we need certified measurement data?”

If the answer is visual access, this module may be worth evaluating.

FAQ 3: We know the OV6948 output is only 200×200. How can we decide whether that is enough for an OEM micro-borescope or precision inspection tool?

The right question is not “Is 200×200 high resolution?”
It is not. The right question is:

“Is 200×200 enough to answer the inspection question inside a space where no larger camera can fit?”

For an OEM micro-borescope camera module, 200×200 may be enough for:

  • confirming whether a micro-channel is open or blocked
  • checking orientation inside a narrow cavity
  • confirming that the probe reached the target area
  • viewing internal passage geometry at close range
  • observing debris, gross obstruction or major condition changes
  • providing visual access during R&D or service tool development

It is usually not enough for:

  • fine defect measurement
  • OCR or text reading
  • detailed crack analysis
  • long-distance inspection
  • high-resolution surface documentation
  • certified inspection decisions without other validation

For aerospace, automotive and precision manufacturing applications, the module should be tested with your real target part, real lighting condition and final probe geometry. If the inspection decision depends on fine visual detail, choose a larger camera or a different optical method. If the decision depends on entering a sub-2mm passage at all, OV6948 may solve the more important problem.

FAQ 4: We are building a custom micro-inspection probe, not buying a finished borescope. What integration risks should our engineering team consider?

If you are developing a custom sub-2mm inspection probe, the camera sensor is only one part of the system. The final performance depends on the complete mechanical, optical and electrical design.

Before selecting NECM16USB-D102, your team should evaluate:

  • front-head protection
  • tube or sheath design
  • cable strain relief
  • bend radius and insertion path
  • LED heat and brightness
  • dust, liquid or debris exposure
  • cleaning method
  • sealing requirement
  • connector design
  • USB host compatibility
  • image display or recording software
  • repeatability of probe positioning
  • expected pilot and annual production volume

For aerospace or automotive inspection tools, you should also evaluate whether the final probe must meet internal QA procedures, customer documentation standards, traceability requirements or NDT workflow requirements.

This module is best used by OEM teams that can design the full probe around the camera. It is not a ready-to-use industrial videoscope, and it is not intended for casual end users.

FAQ 5: We found this page while searching for a “tiny camera for a hole smaller than 2mm.” How do we know whether we are the right customer?

You are likely the right customer if your project has all three conditions:

  1. A strict sub-2mm access problem
A 2mm or 3mm borescope cannot physically enter the inspection path.
  2. A real OEM or engineering project
You are developing a micro-inspection probe, micro-borescope, aerospace or automotive service tool, EV component inspection fixture, precision manufacturing inspection device or internal passage visual access system.
  3. A realistic understanding of image limits
You understand that OV6948 provides 200×200 close-range video for visual access, orientation and confirmation, not HD imaging or fine defect measurement.

You are probably not the right customer if you need:

  • a cheap consumer endoscope
  • a mobile-phone inspection camera
  • a student project module
  • a DIY tiny camera
  • a high-resolution borescope
  • a certified NDT tool
  • a medical endoscope camera
  • a camera for general-purpose inspection

If your team can clearly describe the target component, access diameter, working distance, probe length, bend path and production plan, NECM16USB-D102 may be worth evaluating as a 1.2mm OV6948 micro camera core.
